Still having a great time with the new camera and had a fun time waking up this morning from a very strange dream. In it, I had signed off on selling our home in exchange for purchasing a very large home of brick and wood in the east sacramento area for $169k. It had plush cream carpet and granite floors and countertops with a large wooden deck and pool in an L shaped huge lot. The house was really beautiful, but I was afraid there wasn't enough light and since Matt hadn't even seen it, I was hoping he wouldn't hate that I just traded in our own home without his consent. I remember I was happy with the house, but then started to think about the neighbors and what about traffic and noise and and and and...and then I woke up.
We headed off to the farmer's market under the freeway in midtown for some shopping. We go to the farmer's market typically by our house every Saturday, but it's a handful of vendors with no meat vendors to be seen and only one bread, nuts, eggs, mushrooms, olive oil, cheese vendor. It's easy and quaint, but nothing compared to the selection on Sunday mornings under the bridge. I was tempted to bring my camera, but I knew it would be packed and Matt would like some help carrying things, so I decided to hold off for now. We bought some frozen mackerel and squid from an Asian booth that looked clean and well run. It's always funny to watch how other people seem to be nervous about buying whole fish from the Asian market folks-I can't tell if they are intimidated by the concept of cooking a whole fish that isn't wrapped in plastic, or if it's dealing with vendors who speak limited english that makes them uncomfortable. We also acquired a french lavender plant, some summer squash, some japanese eggplant, and a walla walla onion.
John came over and brought a bottle of Red & White belgian ale from Dogfish Head Brewing and some snacky stuff. The heat has been unbelievable so we encouraged him to come over, enjoy the new HVAC system and watch the Giants game. We had squid in prosciutto and garlic oil, summer squash caponata, and will make grilled mackerel with white wine and capers tonight. Well, off to procrastinate till the end of the weekend like a good little avoider.
