Sketchbook Project 2011

Well I finally got off my butt last Saturday and rebound the moleskine cahier notebook  that is given to participants with hand torn paper I've collected for years, painted the outside. and got started on this art project that is due on the 15th!
I used acrylics, gloss medium, and stencils on the outside cover before putting on a thin coat of beeswax to try and help reinforce the binding. Next time I rework a journal like this, I think I would rather use linen tape to reinforce the binding, or split it and use a different stitch altogether.

I added a lot of different papers I've picked up over the years from Art Ellis (the last locally owned art store in town) in along with cardstock from Michael's. Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to split up some of the Arches 22x30" 140lb watercolor paper I have or some of the Rives BFK paper I've got. I can be such an art supply hoarder!

This is a piece from a little quilt square I picked up at the local sewing crafting shop (Beverly's), black gel pen ink, and goauche paint.
I soooo wanted to write on here for this little piece of collage with acrylic and medium gloss "Dear God" on the top :)

This is a small rectangular mini book in the front that I enjoyed putting together-just hoping the outside loop with the button will hold up. The landscape on the back is just an idea in my head of trips down the Sacramento River.
Well, I really hope I can finish this thing in time. This is my really busy time at work and it's also very time sensitive, exhaustive budget junk with pretty much the same deadline, so I've really put myself in a bad spot. I guess it's a good thing my theme is "In Five Minutes...".

Go go procrastinator power!

  6. SO BEAUTIFUL! This is the kind of art I'd like to be perpetrating, myself. I love collage and blank books, and this seems like the perfect synthesis of those two things. Thanks for sharing your artwork with us!
