Weekword by Me=Library

Good morning all!

As usual, I'm late for posting, but really at this point, it shouldn't be considered late anymore so much as  skidding into home plate in the 9th inning with two outs. Thank you to everyone who is joining us this week, it's great to see some familiar faces who haven't played in a while! Our dear friend John, who always has such loving, compassionate posts and always checks on everybody throughout the week, is on a little break, so I will do my best to be the cheerleader this weekend :)

Libraries for me are seriously, one of the most magical places on earth. I have loved them since I can remember because they've been the living space of some of my best friends. The first puppet plays I ever saw were at a library. We held our yearly Christmas shop (an opportunity for kids to buy small gifts for their family members in a safe environment all on their own without Mom standing over your shoulder) in the school library. I spent a whole year of school reading and writing for half the day in the library, and came to think of it as my very own. By 5th grade, I had read all the primers that the school I went to had, including the junior high level readers, and tested out at a 12th grade reading level on my CAT tests (standardized government required testing program before No Child Left Behind days), so, my retiring-that-year- 5th grade teacher shipped me off to the library for half the day to write reports and read. It was my favorite lessons I ever had in school, hands down,

I still look to books as my closest allies and my faithful teachers. Whenever I am struggling on how to handle a life experience, I turn to books to help be my guide. Just like I have never felt at home in a place without pets, I have never felt at home without having piles and piles of books around me. I've moved many many times in my life and traveled some tough roads where I've had to choose to start over. No matter where I have been, I have carried books with me, and a library card in my wallet when there was nothing else in there.

I've worked in bookstores and libraries, and someday when I retire, I will go back to those places to work again no doubt.

Libraries are my best friend's home that I feel comfortable in. What are they for you?

Please go check out our Weekword adventurers this week and let them know you've stopped by. I can't wait to see what everyone has shared :)

  1. My favorite place to go to is my local library. I am fortunate to have a very good one and what they don't have in their collection they will readily order for me on a inter-libary loan. When I leave the library loaded with books both to read and to listen to I feel wealthy indeed.
