Wishcasting Wednesday-What Do You Wish to Celebrate?

It's that time again for wishing with Jamie and friends and I felt quite celebratory today, so here it goes:

I wish to celebrate the Universe this week by hauling my husband out in the middle of the night tomorrow morning to watch the Leonid Meteor Shower streak across the sky. The best time for watching it here in the northern hemisphere is about 3 a.m. Nov 18th, looking towards the Leo constellation for 30-40 meteors per hour to blaze along.

It's always a gift to remember how very small we are in the grand scheme of planetary time and space. We are infinitesimal dots orbiting around a diminutive sun at 66,600 mph in a solar system among billions and billions of others.
Our world is utterly meaningless within the context of the Universe as we understand it, but that's exactly what makes us so amazingly precious.

The human mind can learn and rationalize a cosmic world where we are dust and in the same span of time it takes to finish a sip of coffee can comprehend the microcosm of a cellular world that exists in our own body that hosts billions and billions of bacterial cells: around 2 to 5 pounds of our actual weight is living bacteria!

I love to celebrate being just a floating speck on a wave in the cosmic tides, returning my worries and troubles and sorrows and questions back to the greatness of the Universe. I love to celebrate the intricacies and delicate nuances of my own body as the Universe to a microscopic world within me, it's existence essential to my very own. In being aware and open to understanding the world as expansive beyond measure on a large and small scale, I truly get to celebrate life.

  6. Carmen, what you've written here is so powerful. I'm tempted to think two things: I'm so small, as to be insignificant in such a grand scheme OR I'm so grateful to be a part - however small - of the wonder of this universe. It was while on a camping trip through Zion and Bryce in Utah, hiking through the amazing rock scupltures, and the rivers at the base of huge moutains, that I really began to contemplate God for the first time as an "adult" (I was all of 22 I think! LOL) Your post and celebration bring that memory back so vividly. Thank you for this!

As you wish for yourself, I wish for you as well!

    Hugs,
    Grace

  7. Very thought provoking post, all the more so when each of us "specks" has a special connection to the the great eternal spirit of creation.

  8. You're braver than I am! Feeling like a little speck in the universe freaks me out. I used to lay on my back in the grass as a teenager and let myself give in to that feeling just to get the weirdness out. I haven't done it in a long time. Maybe I should go do it just to humble myself a bit.

As you wish for yourself, so I wish for you as well!

PS - Thanks for the beautiful comment on my post. It really made me smile. :3

  9. In college, there was a hill/mini mountain about 10 miles from my college and a bunch of us used to go up and star gaze. One night, a man showed up with a huge telescope to watch a meteor shower. We stayed on that mountaintop until 4am and I will treasure that memory as it was one of the most magical nights. We were in awe and we held a space of wonder as we took turns gathering around that telescope, sharing stories, and wondering what else existed beyond what our eyes could see. I hope you are able to see the shower tonight. As Carmen wishes for herself, I wish for her also.
